Downpours will move in from the lower Mississippi Valley into eastern and central Texas early this week. This will lead to some much needed rainfall over the region but will also lead to the threat of flash flooding.
This is a result of the westward movement of a storm system combined with the moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. The same storm system affected the lower Mississippi Valley during the weekend and will spread over eastern Texas on Monday before moving into central Texas on Tuesday. Heavy thunderstorm threat looms for places like Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Houston and Waco, Shreveport, Louisiana, and Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi, Texas.
The slow movement of the storm system will mean drenching showers and thunderstorms would linger on and thereby, leading to localised flash flooding. It is due to the slow movement of the storm system the thunderstorms will remain at a particular area over extended periods leading to risk of flash flooding.
Even if there is no flash flooding, reduced visibility due to downpours will create problems for the commuters.
Despite all this threat the rainfall will prove to have long term benefits. Lately, rainfall has been scanty across the region. The summer has been unusually dry after a rather wet spring.
The wet weather will keep the temperatures under check and this comes after the weekend saw temperatures cross the three figure mark of the first time this year. The humidity levels will remain high and the conditions will be sticky.
After Tuesday yet another storm system will move into the region form Florida.
