South Pakistan is experiencing hot, humid and uneasy weather since a while now. There is no significant weather system developing over north Arabian Sea which could given rainfall over southern Pakistan. A low pressure area over north Arabian Sea had intensified into a deep depression but it mainly affected Gujarat region of India.
Heavy rains and flooding were reported from many districts of Gujarat between 22nd June and 24th June. However, that weather system failed to give good rains over south Pakistan. It only increased the discomfort and humidity due to moist southwesterly winds blowing from the Arabian Sea over the region.
But, two Western Disturbances (WD) affected northern and central parts of Pakistan during the last 8 to 10 days. These WDs induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan which was instrumental for scattered rain over these areas. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday Zhob recorded 52 mm of rainfall, Peshawar 30 mm, Islamabad 30 mm and Khanpur 21 mm of rain. These moderate to heavy rains have given much needed relief to the people of the region.
At present a cyclonic circulation is seen over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. This will give scattered rainfall activity for next 24 hours. Thereafter, the weather will go dry.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, another strong WD is expected to affect North Pakistan which will give heavy rainfall over northern districts such as Islamabad, Peshawar, Muree, Kakul and Dir from 6th July to 10th July. But unfortunately south Pakistan will not receive any rain during this period.
