Last weekend saw extreme heavy rain in the southwestern parts of Germany and this led to deadly and dangerous flash flooding. This was as a result of a slow moving storm system which moved across western Germany on Sunday afternoon and evening. This storm system interacted with warm air coming in from the south and this led to severe downpours over the region. This is the same system which was responsible for 11 people struck by lightning in Paris, France over the weekend.
On Sunday heavy rain caused flooding across southwestern Germany. In the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, the rising flood waters swept away cars and caused damage to property. In the town of Schwabisch Hall. The water levels of Rems River rose by about nine feet.
The widespread rain amounting to 130 mm which triggered flash flooding cause trees to uproot and mudslides. These flooding and mudslides have claimed four lives in the region.
The threat of severe thunderstorms will persist across northeastern Germany and in the southern parts of the country unsettled weather with a couple of thundershowers will occur daily. Thus, any storm over the flood hit region will cause a hindrance in the recovery and clean up effiorts.
