Ind vs SA, Nagpur Test: Dry conditions, turning track

November 23, 2015 5:55 PM |

India vs South Africa Nagpur TestIndia vs South Africa, Nagpur Test, is scheduled to be played on November 25, 2015 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground. India currently leads the 4-match Test series 1-0 with two more games to go.

After registering a thumping victory at Mohali in the first Test, India secured a good start to Bengaluru Test on Day 1. But as reiterated by Skymet, incessant rainfall resulted in a washout on remaining four days. Now the attention shifts to India vs South Africa, Nagpur Test, which gives the visitors a chance to level the series before India take an unassailable lead.

Weather during India vs South Africa, Nagpur Test, is likely to remain dry and sunny. A few patchy clouds will be seen from time to time, but there is no threat of rain. In the morning, during start of play, temperature will settle in the late 20s. But as the day goes on, the temperature will touch the early 30s. Humidity levels will be recorded at around 70 to 80% in the morning, but will plummet to 35% in the afternoon. Humidity will be on the higher side on the last two days of the Test match. Easterly winds will continue to blow over the region during the course of the match.

Coming back to cricket per se, the Indian camp is likely to see the return of veteran leg spinner Amit Mishra. But the inclusion of young all-rounder Gurkeerat Singh in the Test squad will give birth to some sort of a selection dilemma. The deadly duo of Ashwin and Jadeja will be of key importance as the Nagpur track is spin-friendly in nature. The ongoing domestic season witnessed 51 wickets off spin bowling, and a paltry 17 off seamers. Thus, there are clear indications that India will pay a predominantly spin bowling attack at Nagpur.

South Africa, on the other hand, will look to overcome the challenge of spin bowling. Spin continues to haunt the Proteas and is likely to cost them the Test series. But there are some good memories for the visitors, here in Nagpur. Back in 2010, Hashim Amla hit a splendid 253 at the venue, while star pacer Dale Steyn returned match figures of 10/108.

But a good past won’t necessarily translate into a comeback win. South Africa will have to deal with some quality spin bowling on a track which will crumble under the sun as the match progresses. We will keep you updated on cricket, weather, and more as the two titans clash on Wednesday.
