Monsoon has withdrawn from many parts of Northwest and Central India and some parts of East India as well.
Due to establishment of the anti-cyclone over Rajasthan, dry and cool winds coming from the northwest direction are blowing over entire Northwest and Central India including Delhi and NCR. These cool winds are being held responsible for the nippy conditions during early morning hours in the national capital.
Minimum have been dropping continuously during the last few days. Delhi had recorded 24.3°C as minimum on October 10, 2016. However, today morning the minimum came down to 17.5°C. Thus, we have seen about seven degrees drop in a span of just 5 days.
On the other hand, the maximum temperatures are still persistent around 35°C. Therefore, we can say that the difference between maximum and minimum temperatures is very high at present.
We do not expect much fall in maximums. At the most, day temperatures could come down to 33°C but minimums will continue to hover around 17 to 18 degree Celsius.
Such lower temperatures during morning hours and very light winds are leading to the formation of slight haze. In absence of strong winds the dust particles are mixing with the haze, forming a blanket of smog near the surface levels. This could lead to breathing problems and other ailments.
Situation will remain crucial from the pollution point of view in Delhi and NCR till first week of November. The upcoming Diwali celebrations will further enhance the pollution levels.
