Flood like conditions continue to rattle Northeast India

Inside

Due to continuous rain since the beginning of April over many parts of northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, flood-like situation has been there in many villages.

Though rainfall is common during this period but this year the country has seen exceptionally high rain after 2010. Even in 2010 the Northeast India did receive very good rainfall in the month of April. Many cities, such as Cherrapunji, have received more than twice the monthly average of April.

As per Skymet Weather’s prediction, we think that fairly widespread rainfall will continue over northeastern states during the next 2 to 3 days.

After that the rain intensity will decrease gradually particularly in northern parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

However, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will continue to witness good rainfall. Due to decrease in rain intensity, water in low-lying areas will recede and relief is in sight from the continuous rainfall.

While there is a flood like situation in Northeast India, the Peninsular India is reeling under severe drought like situation. India is getting the worst of both worlds and this is not the not kind of diversity India hopes to achieve.
