Fog relents in Delhi, grips East India hard

fog in delhiTuesday came as a huge relief to Delhiites yearning for clear weather conditions. Fog that had thrown life out of gear in the city for the past 2-3 days relented today morning. Almost all the pockets of the city was clear with only shallow fog being reported in places like Palam, Dwarka and Faridabad. The visibility at the Palam airport was a decent 500 meters.

Though fog relented in Delhi and the conditions improved in the city, life has been thrown out of gear in East India where dense to very dense fog has been reported from several places. To begin with, Gorakhpur after observing some clear weather for the last 2-3 days again observed very dense fog early in the morning today as the visibility dropped to nil. Allahabad and Varanasi also reported very dense fog with visibility coming down to nil. The situation wasn’t any better in Patna either as the visibility was reported at 100 meters on Tuesday morning. Agra in West Uttar Pradesh also recorded dense fog today, with visibility of 200 meters.

Punjab that has been a frequent victim of fog in the last few days saw some relief on Tuesday. Amritsar reported decent visibility of 500 meters.

Meanwhile, thirteen flights were reported to be cancelled in Delhi out of which 6 were to take off from the Palam airport. Rail traffic was also hit hard with Howrah New Delhi Duronto express running late by 4:15 hrs. Vaishali superfast express is 5:22 hrs late, Rajendernagar Patna New Delhi Rajdhani express 5:39 hrs, Shivganga express 5:48 hrs, Bihar Sampark Kranti express 4:02 hrs, Gorakhdham superfast express 4:5 hrs and Purushottam express 6:7hrs.

Foggy conditions in East India are expected to maintain for a couple of days more.
