July 25, 2016 5:58 PM |

Uttarakhand rains 2Uttarakhand is the rainiest place among the hilly states of North India during the Monsoon season. Till July 24, Uttarakhand received 20% excess rains than the normal.

Over the last 2 days Uttarakhand has received normal rains. Heavy widespread rains were not seen. However, most of the rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark and flood-like situation continues to prevail over the state. To make matter worse, rainfall intensity will start increasing in Uttarakhand from July 26 onward. Intense showers are likely on July 27.

Places like Chamoli, Tehri Garhwal, Champawat and Almora will receive heavy showers. Once again, we could see few episodes of flash floods and landslides.

During last 24 hours, scattered light rains occurred over the state. Dehradun recorded 6 mm of rainfall while Nainital received 7 mm. However, there are indications of heavy rains over the state after 24 hours.

After July 27, intensity of rainfall will reduce in Uttarakhand but one or two places will continue to receive moderate showers. Waters will start receding thereafter and people here will finally breathe a sigh of relief.
