Kozhikode sizzles with highest maximum in 49 yearsWhile intense to severe heatwave conditions had been wreaking havoc over almost the entire Peninsular, Central, East and North India, there was one state where weather conditions were slightly better, and that was none other than Kerala.

However, as April crept in, Kerala also started to bear the brunt of the hot weather conditions. Usually, Pre-Monsoon brings in some relief from warmer conditions. However, these showers in Kerala were light and over isolated areas only.

Due to lack of rains, Kozhikode in Kerala has been witnessing high temperatures. So much so that the city has already surpassed the all-time high maximum record of April. Currently, the maximum in Kozhikode stands at 38.4 degree Celsius, which is one degree above the all-time high.

Kozhikode’s all-time high record stands at 37.2 degree Celsius, which was registered on April 14, 1967. On April 12, 2016, the record was already equaled. After that, temperatures have been settling between 38 and 39 degrees.

Rains have also remained absent from Kozhikode this time. While the average monthly rainfall for the city stands at 76.6 mm, this time, only 16.6 mm rain has been recorded so far.

During the next few days, similar conditions will be observed in Kozhikode and other parts of Kerala. No significant weather system is expected at least for another week. In fact, the mercury may witness an increase even further.
