Rain in BhubaneswarUpdated on August 26, 2015: Low pressure area to give good rain in Odisha

After giving good rains in June, the Southwest Monsoon became a little weak in July due to which Odisha from being surplus recorded a rainfall deficiency of -3% during the month. However, +/- 19 is considered normal in meteorological terms.

August has not panned out well for the state either as the rainfall deficiency in Odisha has dropped further to 16%. In absence of any strong weather system like a depression or a well-marked low pressure area, Odisha has been devoid of heavy to very heavy rains.

However, during last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain has been observed in the state due to a cyclonic circulation, which was over westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast.

According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Bhubaneswar during this period (24 hours) recorded 56.6 mm of rain, Balasore 74.2 mm, Pulbani 15.5 mm and Chandbali 10.2 mm of rain.

Now under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has developed over South Odisha and adjoining North Andhra coast. The system is likely to give moderate to heavy rain at many places in the state for next 2 to 3 days. One or two places may receive very heavy rain during this period as the system is expected to move in a westerly direction.

After 3 days, the intensity of rain will reduce to become light. But this spell will certainly help in improving the rainfall figures of the state.
