Southwest Monsoon has already made advancement over western parts of Madhya Pradesh as early as mid-June. The region has observed good amounts of rain since the last few days. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Indore recorded 34 mm of rain, and Guna received 34 mm of rain.
Bhopal, on the other hand, has observed heavy showers in the past 24 hours. The city recorded 85 mm of rain in just a span of 24 hours, which is the city’s third highest 24-hour rainfall record in the last 10 years. The onset of Monsoon has already been announced in the region after the city experienced a rainy spell.
The first 12 days of June were dry for Bhopal, but after June 13, the city received light to moderate rain leading to favourable conditions for the onset of Monsoon. Heavy rain on June 15 are the first good Monsoon showers that the state capital received.
So far, Bhopal has received 100 mm of rain against a monthly average of 147.7 mm. Usually, Bhopal does experience heavy Monsoon showers that take the rainfall figures to three digits. In the last 10 years, the city’s highest 24-hour rainfall record is 115.8 mm, which was recorded on June 26, 2013. The all-time highest for Bhopal is 155 mm, which was observed on June 22, 1986.
The conditions are favourable for Monsoon showers to continue in the region, i.e. the temperatures are in the high 30s, cloud cover is there and with the temperatures under check, the conditions are also comfortable. Bhopal is expected to receive good amounts of rain this week after a little break in between and may surpass the monthly average rainfall figures in the next few days itself.
