October to February is the peak season for the winters to set in over the northern plains of India. This time is also the most favoured season for Western Disturbance to affect the West Himalayas as well as Northern Plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan.
But in the recent times we have seen an unusual shift in the pattern of Western Disturbance. The number of Western Disturbance continued throughout the Monsoon season but since October there is not a single active Western Disturbance which has affected Western Himalayas.
Though one after another Western Disturbance has approached but they continued to remain in the upper latitude. Usually during winters, Western Disturbances tend to travel towards the lower latitude and affect Pakistan and India. Though this is a continuous phenomenon all through the year but after March they start travelling in upper latitude of China.
Western Disturbances are very important for our region as they give winter snow over West Himalayas. And winter rains are also an important feature of Western Disturbance. Till now there has been no significant rain or snow activity over hilly states and even the northern plains have also remained dry. Our latest weather modals are also indicating that there will be no active Western Disturbance that is approaching in the next week or so.
