Rain in Tamil Nadu

Most parts of Tamil Nadu remained dry during the month of February especially the north coastal parts of the state. Such weather pattern continued in the initial days of March as well. While north remained dry, southern districts managed to get some spells of rain. This was due to weak easterly winds blowing over the region.

Showers were observed over the state during the second week of March. However, these rains remained confined to southern districts, while northern areas continued to witness warm and humid conditions.

In last 24 hours as well, interior parts of Tamil Nadu have recorded light rain and thundershowers. Rain activity recorded in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am from Thursday, Madurai 5 mm and Kovilangulam 2 mm.

These rain and thundershowers can be credited to the persisting cyclonic circulation over North Interior Karnataka and adjoining areas. Also, the wind discontinuity is from Lakshadweep Island to Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
