Heavy showers with isolated storms are expected in southeast and east & north areas of Queensland whereas conditions in the southwest are expected to remain dry. Meanwhile in Europe, the shifting low pressure system in Canada is expected to cause windy conditions in parts of UK, Ireland, and Scotland. In US, winter storm Damon has triggered travel nightmares & flight delays in the region. The incoming rain is expected to turn into snow and about 6 inches of snowfall is expected in New York.

Let's take a deeper look into the weather activities in the above mentioned parts of the world.

Weather In Australia

Heavy showers are expected in the southeast Queensland whereas isolated storms will affect east & north Queensland. The conditions are expected to remain dry in the southwest region. Weather forecast for Thursday suggests that widespread showers & storms with heavy falls will affect the region. Also, the coastal areas north from Brisbane are expected to remain generally hot & dry.

Weather In Europe
The low pressure system that developed in Canada will now be moving towards Europe. The tail-end of the system will affect UK bringing moderate winds (60-70mph) to the region.

Heavy winds of about 80mph are expected to meet northern Ireland accompanied by large waves & stormy sea conditions. Frequent showers and blizzards are also expected in the region. Meanwhile in Scotland, both snow & sleet showers along with blustery winds are predicted. The temperature forecast is 5°C and the conditions are expected to improve over the weekend.

Two people have reportedly died in road accidents while several were reported injured. The grim weather conditions have led to a pile up on State roads and incoming rain is expected to turn into heavy snow. Coastal flooding along with high winds (60mph) are also expected in the region.

December 9, 2014:

Severe weather conditions have started to develop in parts of Australia, Europe, and US. Storms will affect areas like Queensland in Australia while flash floods are expected to hit the borders of New South Wales. Meanwhile in Europe, Scotland is under the cover of heavy snow which is expected to spread further to England & northern Ireland. Also in US, winter storm 'Damon' has begun to develop off the east coast giving impetus to coastal flood threats and heavy rains in several areas. Let's take a deeper look into the latest weather activities in these three regions.

Weather In Australia
Two severe storm warnings have been issued for South & North Brisbane in Queensland. Hail and damaging winds are also expected in the region. Areas which will be affected by the storm include parts of Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Somerset, Sunshine Coast, and others. In addition to this, the storm may trigger flash floods & large hail storms near borders of New South Wales including Kooralbyn, Lowood, and Narangba.

Besides this, there is a general severe thunderstorm warning for areas like Darling Down, Granite Belt, and parts of Wide-Bay Burnett. Locals have been directed to bring loose outdoor items inside the house and secure items that cannot be moved. The residents have also been asked to move their vehicles undercover and away from trees.

Weather In Europe
Scotland has been hit by severe snow which is expected to spread to parts of England and Northern Ireland. A string of road accidents have been triggered due to snow, ice, and strong winds which currently affect the region. Driving has become extremely difficult and road services are currently facing significant delays. Weather forecast for the region suggests that snow & hail is expected at higher elevations (above 200m) while both snow & sleet showers are expected at lower elevations. These weather conditions are likely to last for the next 48 hours or so.

Forecast for accumulation of snow in the region is up to 5cm in lower levels and 10cm at elevations above 400m. Interestingly, last winter, Scotland mountains recorded the greatest snow fall in 69 years.

Weather In US

Plunging Temperatures: A winter storm has begun to develop off the East Coast and is expected to deliver a disruptive mix of snow, rain, high winds, and coastal flooding in the North East region. As the system gradually moves northwards this week, it will head towards New England late on Wednesday. The storm is expected to bring a lot of cold air once the temperatures take a plunge.

Coastal Flood Threat: As low pressure intensifies off-shore, it will generate moist easterlies which will then start to pile ocean water towards shores. Some coastal flooding has already taken place in North Carolina on Monday. The concern is primarily for the next 24 to 48 hours when high tide is expected on Delaware beaches to the Jersey Shore, and south facing portions of Long Island. These are the areas which are placed under coastal flood warning during high tide. Although the flood will be nowhere near to what is caused by a hurricane, it will be intense enough to inundate properties.

Heavy Rain Threat: Heavy rain is expected in coastal & Southern New England and mid-Atlantic states from New Jersey to Maine. Rainfall totals of over 2 inches may lead to flash floods in flood prone urban areas. Flood watches have been hoisted in Southern New England. southward into northern New Jersey, including the New York City Tri-State area, Hartford and Boston.

Amount Of Snow: Not much snow is expected from Boston to New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington. However, heavier snow potential exists in the interior north-east from Northern Pennsylvania to New York's Mohawk and upper Hudson valleys. Heavy snow over 6 inches is expected in Green & White mountains and northern Maine. Some of the higher elevations may receive up to 2 feet of snow through Thursday.
