Monsoon was vigorous over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in last 24 hours. This vigorous Monsoon has resulted in heavy to extremely heavy spells over the area. Bagdogra recorded 104 mm of rainfall whereas Jalpaiguri received 147 mm of rainfall. Gangtok received 44 mm and Cooch Behar received 26 mm of rainfall.
The axis of Monsoon trough has shifted towards south but the Monsoon surge is active over the area and we expect heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to continue over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for another 24 hours.
During this time, few locations may receive rainfall of more than 100 mm. Thereafter the rain will reduce significantly and rain belt is expected to shift towards Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
However, light to moderate rain will continue over these areas and rain intensity will once again pick up pace over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim by July 29.
That time, around July 29, we also expect few moderate to heavy spells but extremely heavy rain will not be there. This heavy rain that lashed has resulted in flooding. Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Dinajpur and Malda these districts of North Bengal are flood prone and therefore we expect that heavy rains will affect the areas.
