Rain in Tamil Nadu

During the last many days, on and off rain and thundershowers have been lashing several places of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka. In fact, few of the districts have also recorded heavy spells.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the persistence of a trough, extending from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra up to Interior Tamil Nadu across Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka. Though the position of this trough is oscillating from east to west, but it is still maintaining its impact over southern peninsula.

During the last 24 hours as well, light to moderate showers have been recorded over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South interior Karnataka.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Dharmapuri recorded 37 mm of rainfall, followed by Coonoor 30 mm, Thanjavur 23 mm, Kodaikanal 4.3 mm and Bangalore 3 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers will continue over parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Karnataka for another two to three days. Places like Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Salem, Tiruchchirappalli, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Perambalur and Thanjavur are likely to receive rain and thundershowers. Bangalore is also witnessing partly cloudy to cloudy sky with chances of some thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the coastal districts like Chennai and surrounding areas will continue to see dry weather. Isolated rains cannot be ruled out over these areas.

Temperature over Kerala may fall, but North Coastal Tamil Nadu will continue with warm and humid conditions, leading to uneasiness and discomfort.
