Vegan Leather

If you are an animal lover, and do not use leather for the love of animals, we have some good news for you. There are two farmers from Mexico, who have found out a non-animal way of developing leather. In fact, these two Mexican friends have found out a way of making vegan leather from cactus. Well, doesn’t that sound just perfect. The cactus leaves from which the leather will be derived are called Desserto.

Desserto, which is a rugged, hard, thick and pointy cactus in nature. However, when it is developed and processed completely, it resembles leather. The two friends, Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez have opened the company by the name of Adriano Di Marti for developing leather. Both these people have worked in furniture automotive and fashion industries in the past. They then understood that environmental pollution is a very big problem.

Both these people do not use any chemicals that are harmful in converting the cactus into leather. The best part is that despite non usage of these chemicals, the shelf life of these products is just 10 years. The product was unveiled in Milan for the first time in October 2019.

Leather, which comes from animal skin is not only responsible for the lives of millions of animals, but they also use a huge amount of chemicals and water for processing it. Not only this, the leather due to not being biodegradable, contribute to a large carbon footprint.
