Egypt could import less than 4 million tonnes of the grain in 2015-16, around 600,000 tonnes less than in 2014-15. Due to a new subsidised bread distribution system that has cut smuggling of wheat. Egypt had already lowered wheat imports in 2014-15 to 4.6 million tonnes, as compared to 6.4 million tonnes in 2013-14 due to a new smart card system.
