Rainy weather to continue throughout January in UK

January 7, 2016 12:42 PM |

uk rainWet weather is likely to persist throughout the month of January in the United Kingdom. In the last few weeks, spells of rain have been occurring across the region. The rainfall has been heavy enough to cause flooding in some areas. The additional rain will only aggravate the persisting flood situation.

From Thursday onwards, a weather system will cross the British Isles. This system will bring a fresh spell of rain from Northern Ireland into Wales, England and Scotland. It will be cold enough in the Highlands of Scotland for rain to convert into snow. This wet weather will continue well into Friday. Yet another spell of rain is expected during the weekend due to moisture incursion.

It is normal for this region to experience wet weather during winters. However, the risk of wind damage will reduce significantly as strong windy storms are expected to reduce, which is unusual for this time of the year. Strong winds experienced during storm Eva and storm Frank are not likely till the end of January. However, with weather systems crossing the region wind gusts of up to 35 kmph are expected. These winds will not be strong enough to cause any damage.

We can expect a short break of around five days from this wet weather during the middle of the month. Meanwhile, chilly weather is likely across the region.
