UK weather: Freezing temperatures to subside soon

January 19, 2016 1:44 PM |

uk freezeBritain continues to remain under the grip of freezing temperatures. However, this spell sub-zero temperatures will come to an end by the coming weekend.

Unseasonably mild conditions are expected to follow the prevailing freezing conditions.

Large portions of the country received heavy snowfall during the last weekend. On Monday, the snow cover cleared with the advent of clear skies. But, dry cold winds ensured that the entire region continued to feel the biting cold.

Despite the departure of snow, ice in the northern parts of the region could make road conditions dangerous. For the last couple of days, there was a yellow weather warning for northwest and northeast England, Yorkshire and large parts of southern Scotland. Heavy snow warnings prevailed for much of Strathclyde, Tayside and Fife area.

This season, Britain’s weather has been quite haywire. By the middle of the week, the weather will become drier with a sustained spell of sunny weather. On Thursday, temperatures are expected to climb to 10°C in the southwestern parts of Britain. On Friday, these temperatures will be more widespread.

During the coming weekend, milder condition from the Atlantic would lead to a rise in temperatures. Although, it will not be as mild as what was experienced in December, it will be unseasonably mild for this time of the year. However, this would mark the return of wet and windy conditions for much of the region.
