Moderate showers expected to continue over Northeast India

Northeast region of the country had not been fortunate enough to have received good rains during the entire Southwest Monsoon this year.

Northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh remained one of the most rain deficient states this season during Southwest Monsoon. On the contrary, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura (NMMT) has also received below normal rainfall.

However, during last 24 hours, some decent rains have occurred over parts of Northeast India. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, parts of Arunachal Pradesh received light showers Pasighat recorded 1.4 mm, Tawang witnessed 15 mm of showers.

During the similar time frame, most of the districts in Assam, Guwahati, Jorhat and Silchar witnessed light showers of 1 mm, 1.3 mm and 1.9 mm respectively. Aizawl and Lengpui in Mizoram observed 6.2 mm and 39.7 mm respectively.

Mokokchung and Kohima in Nagaland during the similar time frame observed 4 mm and 1.2 mm wet spells respectively. While, during the same time, Gangtok, Tadong and Mangan in Sikkim observed 4.6 mm, 10.3 mm and 8.2 mm showers respectively.

Parts of Tripura has also recorded some light to moderate showers. Agartala witnessed 3.8 mm spells while Kailashahar witnessed wet spells of 11.8 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a small cyclonic circulation has developed over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura (NMMT) and adjoining areas in lower level. Moreover, moist southwesterly and southerly winds are also prevailing over most parts of northeast India.

Due to this, rains mainly moderate showers are likely to continue at some places over the southern region of Northeast India. Thereafter, these showers are expected to intensify gradually.

Withdrawals are likely to cover some more parts of northwest India now.
