Meat Conundrum: Debunking Myths and More

Meat Ban India

While cultural terrorists and pressure groups in India continue to make news for their stand on ‘meat ban’, humble foodies sitting at home cannot help but question their appetite as well as their morals.

The debate surrounding the viability of the meat ban will settle itself in some time. But as a foodie, you can’t help but wonder about the quantity of meat in your diet. There are several myths surrounding the consumption of meat and even more revolving around the intake of meat during the Indian summer. Well, it’s time to address the elephant in the room.

Firstly, while meat does take long to digest, it does not affect your digestive cycle adversely. Contrary to popular belief, the human body is more than capable of digesting meat products. Humans and pre-humans have been consuming meat for centuries now, and only vegans have something to crib about. Therefore, biologically, our bodies are well 'equipped' when it comes to consumption and proper digestion of meat.

The overall goodness of processed meat is still under question, but fresh meat has received the green signal in every lab and country. Also, it’s not just proteins which make it your body when you consume meat. A moderately cooked slice of meat is loaded with several nutrients which contribute to your health and wellness.

In every way, meat qualifies for a spot on your dinner table. What matters is how you compliment that big slice of steak. It is advisable to couple meat with staple food options. Also, overcooking meat is close to committing a health crime. In some countries like India, charred meat with a smoky feel is preferred by most people. But health experts recommend lightly or moderately cooked meat.

Our meat-eating habits need not be controlled as far as weight gain is concerned. We must focus on changing the way we prepare our meat. When done rightly, a diet rich in meat is considered as a genuinely healthy diet. Yes, there are other ways to derive protein from vegan products, but you have to agree that animal protein is superior, tender, and juicy!
