Typical Monsoon Showers In Delhi: Widespread Rainfall In NCR Too, More Showers Likely
After a lengthy wait, and as predicted, the national capital finally experienced typical monsoon showers. The weather activity began late last night and continued into the morning hours, remaining nearly non-stop at some places. NCR also received decent showers with moderate intensity and widespread coverage across Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad.
The Palam airport observatory recorded 21 mm of rainfall, while the base station at Safdarjung recorded 12 mm. Most other weather stations in the region reported similar readings. More showers are likely across the area.
The monsoon trough at the lower levels has oscillated and shifted north of Delhi, while still remaining in close proximity. A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over North Punjab and adjoining areas of Pakistan. An inclined trough from this system will extend and connect with the cyclonic circulation over Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. This trough will linger near Delhi, with minor north-south shifts over the next 3–4 days.
Weather conditions will improve today as the day progresses. However, clouds will start gathering again in the late evening hours. Rain and thundershowers are expected to resume tonight. This weather activity will continue until mid-week, with brief pauses in between. Rain and showers are likely tomorrow and the day after, even during the daytime, with intermittent activity persisting through the night. Isolated heavy thunderstorms, lightning, and intense thundershowers are quite likely during the late night of July 8th and 9th. A spillover effect with ‘off and on’ spells of patchy rain will continue for the following 2–3 days. Weather conditions are likely to remain comfortable throughout the week.
