Delhi has not received any rainfall for the last 10 days. It is indicative of likely monsoon withdrawal anytime soon. Invariably, there is a parting shower for the capital city before the complete retreat of monsoon. There is a likelihood of a light spell of rain, patchy and fleeting, between 17th and 19th Sep, with a better chance on 18th Sep. The weather activity will be brief and mild and may set the stage for cessation of monsoon thereafter.

Following the prolonged dry spell, the day temperature had a rising trend. The base station Safdarjung breached the 36°C mark yesterday for the first time this month. Earlier, the city had recorded 36.2°C on 20th Aug 2025. Southwest Monsoon has already commenced withdrawal from West Rajasthan. Around the national capital also, humidity levels have lowered and winds have slowed down too. With clear skies and a fair amount of sunshine, backed by a drop in moisture content, conditions are becoming favourable for the retreat of monsoon.

Prior to the final call of monsoon, a short spell of light rainfall is likely for Delhi/NCR around mid-week. There is an east-west trough along the Indo-Gangetic plains, roughly extending from West Uttar Pradesh to the Seemanchal region of Bihar. Two small-scale cyclonic circulations are embedded in the trough, one each over West Bihar and Central Uttar Pradesh. While these two states are likely to have fairly widespread moderate rainfall, heavy at places, the extension of the trough close to Delhi is prompting adieu monsoon showers for the capital city. It may not lead to the roar of thunder or a blinding flash of lightning, but it is promising a sheet of clouds with likely sprinkles in some pockets. The weather conditions will typically turn into a post-monsoon flavour sometime from 21st September onwards.
