Delhi Gets Heavy Showers: Rainy Week Ahead
Many parts of Delhi/NCR received heavy rainfall yesterday. Showers lashed the capital city for the fourth consecutive day. The rainfall after 8:30 a.m. yesterday will be counted against 01st August, and so, the month of August makes a rainy start. The factors responsible for the repeated wet spell remain unchanged, and therefore, the monsoon activity will go on unabated over the weekend and through the complete next week as well.
August is the rainiest month for Delhi, with a monthly normal of 226.8 mm rainfall. This month also has the highest number of rainy days. Base station Safdarjung recorded 17 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. The downpour was rather heavy at the airport, and Palam observatory registered a deluge of 79 mm during the same period. Najafgarh and Ayanagar were lashed with 64 mm and 51.5 mm rainfall, respectively. Most other parts also received measurable rainfall during the day. Incidentally, Safdarjung recorded heavy rainfall of 107.6 mm last year also, on the first day of August. Palam was a shade lower with 68.3 mm rainfall.
The monsoon trough is crossing the capital city for the second consecutive day. There is a cyclonic circulation each, marked over Haryana and Southwest Uttar Pradesh. The trough is linking these two circulations and passing through Ganganagar, Hisar, Delhi, and proceeding further eastward. The two circulations are likely to merge, and a single circulation will remain nearly stagnant over Delhi and parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Southwest Uttar Pradesh for the next 5–6 days. This feature will have a tendency to shift marginally up and down, resulting in oscillation of the monsoon trough.

The continuous proximity of the trough with the capital city will remain favourable for active monsoon conditions in the Delhi region. Intermittent rain and thundershowers are expected till 10th August 2025. Decent moderate showers are likely between 02nd and 04th August. The activity may slow down a bit on 05th and 06th August but will take off again from 07th August onward. Cloudy skies, mild breeze, and fleeting showers will keep the rotting sultry conditions at bay, and comforting weather conditions will remain the hallmark till 10th August 2025.
