Heat and sultry conditions have reappeared over the national capital and suburbs. Mercury levels have been rising for the last four days. Base station Safdarjung recorded a day maximum of 38.1°C, about 4°C above the average and also up by 3°C, as recorded earlier on Thursday last. With the rise in humidity, even the night temperatures have risen by similar margins. This morning, Safdarjung recorded a minimum of 28.2°C, about 5°C above normal and also the highest since 06th July 2025.

Southwest monsoon withdrew from the capital city on 24th Sep, a day earlier than normal. Understandably, the day temperatures do rise after the withdrawal of monsoon but the humidity levels drop because of drier winds. However, the incursion of easterly winds over Delhi and the neighboring region has resulted in sticky conditions. Winds are unlikely to change for the next few days and therefore muggy weather conditions will continue. Yes, there is a chance of a light sprinkle over Delhi/NCR during this week. The rain or drizzle, if any, will be very light and for brief duration.

There is a low-pressure area over the Gulf of Cambay and adjoining Saurashtra & Kutch region, associated with deep cyclonic circulation. Also, there is another cyclonic circulation over the Central Bay of Bengal and it is likely to become more marked and turn into a low-pressure area over the same region in the next 48 hours. An east-west trough joining these two systems is passing through Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Upper winds have become easterlies, all along the Indo-Gangetic plains, covering up to Delhi, Haryana, and North Rajasthan.

The low-pressure area will persist over Gujarat along with the circulation for the next 4 days. The cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal will get organized and turn into a low-pressure area after about 48 hours. This system will move inland across central parts and retain the easterly flow over the capital region. Scattered clouds are likely, along with a light to moderate breeze. There is a chance of light rainfall for Delhi and its neighborhood during this week. The showers, if any, will be fleeting and patchy, as well. The intensity and spread of rainfall will possibly increase further around the weekend and spill over into the start of the next week.
