Week Long Active Monsoon Conditions Over Rajasthan And Gujarat
The states of Gujarat and Rajasthan are likely to experience vigorous monsoon activity, extending for one week or even longer. Both states have witnessed decent monsoon rainfall throughout the season, except for the first fortnight of August, when a dry spell covered most parts. Yet, seasonal rainfall has been above normal across most subdivisions of both states. The upcoming spell may not be equitably distributed for west and east Rajasthan. Even the interiors of Gujarat will have a bigger share compared to Saurashtra and Kutch.
Multiple weather systems will join hands to spread weather activity over these two far western regions of the country. The low-pressure area over Chhattisgarh and the adjoining region of east Madhya Pradesh will continue its westward march. The convergence zone of the system will reach far ahead of its central area. The monsoon trough is quite active and runs through the state of Rajasthan, passing through the circulation of the low-pressure system. The cyclonic circulation over the Punjab region has been subsumed by the dominant western disturbance, and the merged circulation is now marked over the plains of Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan, and the foothills. This trio of weather systems, along with their further movement across the central and western parts of the country, will accentuate monsoon activity over the westernmost border states of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Lanslide Alert: Heavy Rainfall Over Uttarakhand: Landslides Likely
Northern and central parts of Gujarat and most of east and southeast Rajasthan will experience significant weather activity for the next seven days. Saurashtra, Kutch, and border areas of west Rajasthan will have shorter and milder weather activity initially, with intense activity expected only toward the end of next week. The places at risk of severe weather activity in Rajasthan include Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, Dungarpur, Banswara, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Pali, Jalore, and Sirohi. Jaipur, along with Ajmer, Alwar, Tonk, and Dausa, will experience moderate weather activity during this period. The weather-sensitive areas in Gujarat will include Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda, Anand, Kheda, Aravali, Dahod, Godhra, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Deesa, Patan, Mehsana, and Palanpur. Expansive spells of rainfall over some of these locations in both states may saturate the ground and cause localized flooding and inundation.
