Delhi/NCR witnessed a brief but intense spell of rain and thundershowers last evening. Base station Safdarjung and airport observatory Palam recorded 10.2mm and 28mm rainfall, respectively. Ayanagar registered the highest rainfall of 31.2mm during this period. Courtesy of clouds and rain, the temperatures remained checked and were below normal by 2°–4°C. A similar trend of rainfall and temperature will continue through this week.

With last evening’s rainfall, Delhi’s representative observatory at Safdarjung has recorded a total of 100mm rainfall between 01st and 15th July 2025. It has reached the halfway mark for the month during the first half of July. The normal rainfall for July stands at around 195.8mm. The city can expect 30–40mm rainfall during this week and inch closer to the normal figure.

A well-marked low-pressure area lies over central parts of North Rajasthan, supported by a well-defined cyclonic circulation. On the eastern side, the well-marked low-pressure area over West Bengal intensified into a depression, now lying over Jharkhand and adjoining parts. The monsoon trough joining these two circulations is running south of Delhi, but not very far from the city. As the first cyclonic circulation shifts northward over North Rajasthan and Punjab, and the other one over Jharkhand moves over East Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon trough is likely to remain in very close proximity to Delhi between 16th and 18th July. Both these circulations are likely to complement each other and support the spread of weather activity.

Delhi is likely to have short-duration rain and thundershowers today and tomorrow. Most of the activity will take place in the evening hours. On 17th and 18th July, the trough will pass through Delhi, and therefore, the intensity and spread of weather activity will increase. As both the weather systems weaken thereafter, the weather activity will recede over Delhi/NCR on Saturday and Sunday.
