A western disturbance is persisting over the mountains as an upper-air system. Also, under the influence of an east-west shear zone, a low-pressure area has formed over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. This feature has dragged the seasonal monsoon trough southward. At present, the trough passes through Deesa, the centre of the low-pressure area, Satna, and extends further eastward. This trough is the primary trigger for monsoon showers over Delhi, but it is currently not favourably positioned to produce intense and sustained rainfall activity.

Under the combined influence of the western disturbance and the monsoon trough, medium-level sheet clouds and scattered low-level cloud patches are likely to persist over Delhi and its neighbourhood. Fleeting showers and patchy rainfall of short duration may occur at any time of the day. These rain-bearing cloud patches are expected to drift from east to west. Highly humid easterly winds will prevent any sharp rise in temperatures. The maximum temperature today is likely to remain around 34°C (±1°C), with only a marginal increase expected over the weekend.

The monsoon trough is likely to shift northward gradually. It is expected to cross the latitude of Delhi on Sunday and remain north of the city for the subsequent four to five days. During this northward shift, Delhi may receive a few sharp spells of rain between July 26 and July 28, when the trough moves closer to the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
