Large parts of Rajasthan are currently facing drought-like conditions. On paper, rainfall statistics may suggest a different story — East Rajasthan is still rain surplus by 40%, while West Rajasthan shows a surplus of 39%. But the reality is that for nearly a month, the weather has remained almost dry, leaving farmers and residents worried.

Until the third week of July, the state was enjoying abundant rainfall. Continuous wet spells during the latter half of June and the first half of July led to a large rain surplus, even causing flood-like situations in several districts. At that time, farmers feared crop damage due to excess waterlogging. Ironically, the situation has now flipped — after excessive rains, the state is battling prolonged dry weather.

This contrasting rainfall pattern is becoming a major concern for the farming community. Crops that thrived on timely rains earlier are now in need of fresh showers. Thankfully, relief seems to be just around the corner.

Starting August 21st, rainfall activity is set to revive over the eastern districts of Rajasthan. Places such as Alwar, Dausa, Karauli, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Bundi, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh, along with Jaipur, Ajmer, Sirohi, Pali, Jodhpur, and Barmer, are likely to witness scattered showers.

By August 23rd, the spread of rainfall will extend further, covering the northwestern parts of the state — including Churu, Bikaner, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, and parts of Jaisalmer.

This renewed spell of monsoon showers is expected to continue until around August 27th. While some districts may receive only light to moderate rainfall, isolated pockets are at risk of intense showers. Overall, most parts of Rajasthan are likely to get a fair share of rain, providing much-needed respite from the ongoing dry spell and reviving hopes for farmers.
