Extremely heavy rains have been lashing the Konkan Coast. The capital city, Mumbai, has been submerged under non-stop torrential rains for the fourth consecutive day. The periphery of the heavy rainfall belt is brushing the southernmost parts of coastal Gujarat. Very soon, the torrential downpour is likely to ingress into South Coastal Gujarat and thereafter quickly spread across most parts of Saurashtra and Kutch. Monsoon fury may spare the interiors of Central and North Gujarat.

There is a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat. An east-west shear line is running across 20°N, passing close to Navsari and Surat over coastal Gujarat. A low-pressure area lies over the Odisha–Chhattisgarh region. The convergence zone is extending far ahead of the center and complementing the shear line and circulation over the sea. Under their combined influence, the cyclonic circulation will strengthen over the northeast Arabian Sea and coastal Saurashtra tomorrow. A low-pressure area may also form over the same region. The intensity and spread of weather activity will increase, covering large parts of South Coastal Gujarat and Saurashtra & Kutch.

Under the combined effect of multiple weather systems, hazardous weather conditions are anticipated for Gujarat between 19th and 21st August 2025. The remnant effect will linger over extreme western parts of Kutch on 22nd August as well. Heavy rains will disrupt communication and connectivity, with rail, road, and air travel all expected to be impacted.

Saurashtra and South Coastal Gujarat will experience widespread heavy rainfall on 19th August. The scale and spread of intense weather will increase to cover the entire South Coastal Gujarat and Saurashtra & Kutch in the subsequent 48 hours, on 20th and 21st August 2025. The places at risk will include Surat, Vapi, Valsad, Navsari, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Mahuva, Jafarabad, Veraval, Gir Somnath, Diu, Junagarh, Porbandar, Dwarka, Okha, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Rajkot. Locations in the Kutch region will include Bhuj, Mandavi, Naliya, Lakhpat, Anjar, Bhachau, Kandla, and Gandhidham. Places likely to escape the extreme monsoon fury include Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda, Aravali, Dahod, Mehsana, Palanpur, Sabarkantha, and Banaskantha, where only moderate showers are expected. Broad clearance is likely over the state from 23rd August 2025 onwards.
