Mumbai has been missing the monsoon rains for the last few days. It has just trickled the last two days, and the streak rains will continue till short of the weekend and pick up thereafter. The city has gathered mere 118.3 mm rainfall between 01st and 10th Sep 2025. The normal for the month is 341.4 mm. Monsoon has not failed in the month of September for the last six consecutive years. An all-time high of 1115.7 mm rainfall was established in Sep 2019. It could retain the track, and the upcoming wet spell may take it somewhere closer to the monthly mark.

Mumbai gets rainfall under the influence of an active off-shore trough along the West Coast. Also, the monsoon systems forming over the Bay of Bengal revive the westerly stream along the Konkan Coast and rejuvenate the seasonal showers. One such situation is coming up shortly, and Mumbai rains will be back in place over the weekend, with a possible extension to the next week.

A cyclonic circulation, earlier marked over Northwest Bay of Bengal, has now shifted over coastal parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, off the Andhra Coast on 12th September. This will become more marked and subsequently move inland across Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, and the adjoining Maharashtra region. The system will keep a safe distance from the West Coast and keep meandering over these parts for the subsequent 3–4 days. With its impact, Mumbai will have moderate to heavy showers between 13th and 15th September. Since the model forecast lowers in accuracy after 4–5 days, the results will be reviewed when the system moves inland. As of now, the wet spell is likely to spill over to the entire next week, more focused on the Konkan region, including Mumbai. Monsoon showers of varying intensity and spread are likely all along Konkan & Goa between 15th and 20th September 2025.
