Weather Forecast for June 28: Monsoon rains to increase in Karnataka, Goa, Mumbai, Gujarat

June 27, 2016 5:32 PM |

Monsoon activities will gain strength on account of the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and the West Coast trough.

The low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal off Odisha and Andhra Coast will possibly become well-marked and move inland during later part of the day. It will track northwestward and bring fairly widespread good rains over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, southern parts of Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Vidarbha. Subsequently, the rain belt will extend up to Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. After 48 hours, Gujarat will also receive good rains.

The low pressure area over Northeast Arabian Sea is moving in a westerly direction. This will bring rainfall over southern parts of Saurashtra.

The off shore trough along the West Coast will bring heavy showers over Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa. Rains will now increase both in spread and intensity. But, Kerala will receive scattered rains only.

Rainfall has reduced over Northeast India, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. Here Monsoon rains will be mainly scattered and light for now.

There are two weather systems, one over North Madhya Pradesh and the other one over Punjab and adjoining areas. A trough is joining these two weather systems, while moving across Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and up to Odisha. This trough will be responsible for bringing the Monsoon current over northern parts including Delhi. As of now, we cannot rule out pre-Monsoon activities over the northern plains.
