Back-to-back Western Disturbance to Blanket Western Himalayas with Heavy Snowfall:

February 25, 2024 6:28 PM |

The western Himalayan region, which saw a dry spell between October and January, is gearing up for another round of snowfall. After experiencing two spells of moderate to heavy snowfall between the end of January and February, the hills are now bracing for two more Western Disturbances expected to arrive in quick succession.

The first disturbance is expected to impact the region from February 25th to 27th, bringing light to moderate rain and snowfall, with isolated heavy snowfall possible on the 26th and 27th. This will be followed by a stronger system arriving between February 29th and March 4th, with the peak intensity anticipated between March 2nd and 3rd.

This second system is expected to be more intense, bringing widespread moderate to heavy snowfall across the Western Himalayas. Additionally, the influence of this disturbance will extend to Northwest and Central India, including parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, which can expect rain during the same period.

While the recent dry spell provided some respite, these upcoming Western Disturbances promise to replenish the region's snowpack, which is crucial for water availability in the spring and summer months. However, residents and travellers in the affected areas are advised to stay vigilant and follow weather updates for potential disruptions due to snowfall and rain.
