Rain on the Horizon: Delhi Braces for Rain and Thunderstorms:

February 17, 2024 11:31 AM |

After a dry spell spanning over two weeks, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) can finally prepare for some respite - rain and thundershowers are expected to arrive soon. The last recorded rainfall in the city was between February 1st and 5th, leaving residents longing for a touch of winter precipitation.

The lack of rain has resulted in day temperatures exceeding normal levels, with the city recording a 29% deficiency in rainfall compared to the expected average. However, hope arrives in the form of a fresh Western Disturbance approaching the Western Himalayas. This weather system is expected to bring widespread rain and snowfall across the region between February 17th and 22nd.

As the system intensifies, a cyclonic circulation will develop over central Pakistan, gradually moving towards Punjab, Haryana, and Northwest Rajasthan. This movement brings promising news for Delhi - the city could witness light to moderate rain and thunderstorms between February 19th and 21st. Prepare for the pitter-patter of raindrops and the rumble of thunder, potentially accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h.

While the rain provides welcome relief, it's worth noting that day temperatures might only see a modest drop of 3-4 degrees. Minimum temperatures, however, might experience a slight increase. By February 22nd, the weather is expected to clear up, paving the way for the return of rising day temperatures.

So, Delhiites, get ready to dust off your umbrellas and prepare for a change in weather. Although the rain might be temporary, it promises to bring much-needed respite from the dry spell and offer a glimpse of the winter we've been yearning for.
