Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Record Highest Temperature Of Season, Heat Wave Likely

May 17, 2024 2:28 PM |

The state of Gujarat, in general, and the capital city Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, in particular, have recorded the highest temperatures of this season. Ahmedabad registered a maximum of 43.6°C and Gandhinagar lowered by a whisper at 43.5°C. The airport observatory recorded a high of  45.2°C, amounting to heat wave conditions. Similar conditions are likely to run for the next few days, without any relief.

Ahmedabad had earlier recorded a high of 43.3°C on 07th May. The city had received some unseasonal showers, earlier this week. No such conditions are likely over the next week or so. Dry weather conditions with a fair amount of sunshine will keep building the heat. Moderate winds in the afternoon hours will trigger ‘loo’ like conditions, till late in the day.

Heat is getting advected from across the border. The southern region of Pakistan is soaring with extreme temperatures: Jacobabad-47.4°C,  Rohri-46°C,  Nawabshah-46.4°C.  Strong low-level winds are transporting the heat, across the border, to Rajasthan and Gujarat regions. Mercury level in excess of 43°C is expected off and on and heat wave conditions will prevail on the weekend. These will spill over to the next week, as well.
