Yesterday’s thunderstorm and dust storm brought some relief from the rising mercury levels in parts of Delhi and adjoining regions. Though rains remained absent from showing up in the National capital and its surrounding areas but the dust storm along with the thunderstorm activity did make the weather conditions favorable and pleasant.
Before, the dust storm affected the region, Delhi’s maximum temperatures in the last 24 hours had already scaled up and settled at 39.2°C as recorded by the Safdarjung Observatory while the Palam observatory recorded the daytime high at 40.4°C.
As the pre-Monsoon activities usually occur during late afternoon and evening hours, the maximums by that time had already scaled up which was the case similar yesterday as well. And thus, only a minute relief from the ongoing maximums was observed by the national capital and adjoining regions.
The reason for this minute relief in the mounting temperatures was associated with the Western Disturbance that can be marked over Afghanistan and North Pakistan. Moreover, an induced cyclonic circulation also persists over Central Pakistan.
Another cyclonic circulation can be seen over Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh. In the wake of both these weather systems, dust storm and thunderstorm activities prevailed in Delhi and NCR.
Moreover, this thunderstorm and dust storm activities are further expected to continue in Delhi, Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram during late afternoon or evening today as well.
The possibility of squally winds cannot be ruled out as well. Light rains are also slight chance. Temperatures may reach close to the 40-degree mark but after the passage of the weather activity, the mercury levels may witness a drop by 1-2°C.
