Another spell of snowfall approaching Western Himalayas

January 28, 2023 7:46 AM |

The Western disturbance has moved away after giving scattered light to moderate rain and snow over Western Himalayas. After the passage of the Western disturbance, cold wins from the north have dropped the temperatures across Northwest India including Delhi and NCR.

However, the snow show is not over yet and another fresh Western Disturbance is coming again. The system is currently over North Pakistan and adjoining area, and it will start affecting Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and parts of Jammu Kashmir by January 28. Intensity and spread of rain and snow will peak on January 29 and may continue until January 30.

Between January 29 and 30, there are chances of moderate to heavy snowfall over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand leading to traffic jams and road closures. We do not expect any significant Western disturbance approaching Western Himalayas until first week of February after this upcoming WD.

Therefore, after the passage of Western disturbance, cold winds from the Western Himalayas will once again blow the northwest and Central parts of the country leading to significant drop in temperatures and cold wave at isolated pockets of Rajasthan and Haryana.
