At 153 mm, Delhi and NCR witness record rainfall, surpassing monthly average

July 9, 2023 1:09 PM |

Southwest Monsoon has been very generous over Delhi in the month of July. Delhi recorded 153 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. The monthly average for July is 195.8 mm. Moderate to heavy rain is possible over Northwest India including Delhi and NCR for the next 2 days. Delhi has already surpassed the monthly average.

The heavy downpour over Delhi and adjoining areas have led to severe waterlogging and traffic jams over the national capital. The axis of the monsoon trough may travel north over the Indo-Gangetic plains. Therefore, rain activities are expected to continue over Delhi for at least the next 4 to 5 days.

The axis of monsoon trough will continue to oscillate north and South and will be over Indo Gangetic plains for the next 3 to 4 days. Along with Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh Punjab and Haryana will also witness heavy showers for the next 2 to 3 days.

The first 15 days of July seem to be very good for monsoon rain over Delhi. The impact of El Nino will start appearing after the second half of July when rain activities may subside.
