In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Salem recorded rain to the tune of 35 mm, Dharmapuri 13 mm, Vellore 3 mm and Kodaikanal 1.1 mm of rain. Meanwhile, Chennai rains failed to make an appearance.

Presently the Northern Limit of Monsoon is passing through Kodaikanal and Tuticorin. As per Skymet Weather, conditions are favourable for the further advancement of Monsoon in some more parts of Tamil Nadu.

As per Skymet Weather, due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over North Tamil Nadu and adjoining Rayalaseema, light rain is likely to affect Chennai city during the next few days. Though, this system would shift northwards to Telangana.

However, an upper air trough will continue to extend up to Tamil Nadu from this system. Simultaneously, Southwest Monsoon will also advance during the coming days. Henceforth, light rain at many places with moderate spells at a few places will continue to affect Tamil Nadu including Chennai during the next few days. Other districts such as Salem, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Puducherry, Coimbatore, Madurai and Connor would record rainfall activity.

In wake of the incursion of moist air mass, the day temperatures are also likely to decrease over the state.
