Cold days in North India, Temperatures plummets

January 20, 2016 2:29 PM |

Winters in DelhiMost parts of northern plains including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh continued to reel under cold day conditions on Tuesday for the second consecutive day. Few parts of North Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were also reported to be under the grip of these chilly weather conditions.

Narnaul in Haryana and Sriganganagar in Rajasthan recorded lowest day temperature of 12°C across the northwestern plains on Tuesday.

Cold day conditions over plains are observed when maximum temperatures at a certain place is less than 16°C.

Moreover, no respite is expected from the biting cold weather over all these places during next 24 hours as well.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the chilly weather can be attributed to the persistent cloudy weather over the region for the last consecutive 2-3 days due to a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining areas.

On the other hand, moderate to dense fog has also prevailed throughout the day during this time period, leading to hazy sunshine. Both the factors coupled together did not let the maximum temperature rise.

One can only expect some relief from Thursday onwards. Intensity of fog will reduce and sky will also clear up due to longer duration of sunshine. However, icy winds from snow-clad Himalayas will sustain the chill factor.

Skymet predicts, cold weather will prevail till January 25-26. Thereafter, both day and night temperatures will start increasing and comfortable weather will prevail over the northwestern plains.

Let us have a look at the maximum temperatures recorded on Tuesday across the region.
