Cyclone Madi to fizzle out soon

December 11, 2013 1:55 PM |

Soon after intensifying into a ‘very severe’ cyclone, Cyclone Madi weakened to a severe cyclone on Monday evening and then rapidly weakened into a deep depression by today morning. Forecast at Skymet suggest, Cyclone Madi could weaken further and fizzle out in the seas itself.

“Due to lack of thermal energy, moderate wind shear and various other factors, we are expecting Cyclone Madi to weaken into a deep depression and then into a well-marked low by tonight”, informs, a senior meteorologist at Skymet Weather.

“Earlier we were expecting Cyclone Madi to bring some good showers at the Tamil Nadu coast, but now that the system is showing signs of dying down in the sea, it will only give very little isolated showers at the Tamil Nadu and Andhra coast”, he added further.

Cyclone Madi is expected to completely lose its significance in the next 48 hours. Though, light showers at the east coast of India are likely for the next 24 to 36 hours.

Visakhapatnam was the only station in South India to have recorded any rain in the last 24 hours, which again was in traces.

Currently Cyclone Madi lies disfigured in the sea at latitude 14.5⁰N and 84.5⁰E, packing winds of only about 50 to 60 kmph.
