Key Takeaways:

  • Safdarjung recorded 40.7°C, second highest temperature of April so far.
  • Delhi may witness first heat wave spell on April 24 and 25.
  • Mercury may touch 43°C with loo conditions likely.
  • Thunderstorms, dust storms and gusty winds expected from April 26 onward.

As on expected lines, Delhi temperature has risen in the past 24 hours. There was an increase of 2°C from the previous day. Base station Safdarjung recorded a maximum of 40.7°C, about 3°C above normal and the second highest so far, in this month. The highest was 41°C registered on 17th Apr 2026. The temperature is likely to rise further and it may lead to the first spell of heat wave for the national capital during the next two days.

A weak western disturbance is moving across the mountains of North India. It will not affect the weather over the Delhi region. Another system is following closely and it will trigger pre-monsoon activity over plains of North India, including Delhi. As was mentioned earlier also, the strong surface and low-level winds are restricting any sharp rise of temperature over Delhi. Today, the winds may not be as strong as yesterday, but still gather sufficient speed to arrest temperature at about 41.5°C or so.

Winds are expected to slow down considerably tomorrow and day after. This is the time when the mercury may shoot to 43°C, resulting in ‘loo’ and heat wave conditions on 24th & 25th April 2026. The next western disturbance will have an induced cyclonic circulation accompanying the main system. Typical pre-monsoon activity is expected on 26th April, Sunday. Thunderstorm and dust storm packed with gusty winds are expected on Sunday. This spell may repeat and likely to go on for the remaining days of the month. The temperatures will come down marginally next week.
