Delhi pollution and temperature dipped due to widespread rain

Delhi Pollution is in good category today on September 10. According to SAFAR organisation, PM10 in Delhi is 44 and PM2.5 is 33. Delhi rarely witnesses such good air quality. There can be multiple factors leading to significant improvement in the Air Quality Index.

Winds are moderate, there is widespread and continuous rain over Delhi and NCR. Moreover, due to the ongoing G20 meeting, the traffic on Delhi roads is very low. Almost all the offices and most of the shopping complexes are shut. All the factories in Delhi are also not operating.

Safdarjung Observatory of Delhi has recorded 39 mm of rain during the last 24 hours. Yesterday it was at 10 mm. Rain activities are going on with light to moderate intensity over many parts of Delhi and NCR today September 10 as well. Day and night temperatures have also come down and are below normal by two degrees.

A cyclonic circulation is over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts of Northeast Rajasthan. Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are also enhancing moisture in the atmosphere. We expect the rains to continue until this evening. The weather will start clearing up tomorrow. Another spell of rain is expected around September 14 and 15. There may be a gradual increase in temperatures as well as air quality index deteriorate gradually until then.
