The arrival of winters comes along with the rising pollution levels. Though pollution in Delhi has been one of the major concerns and despite taking all possible measures, Delhi pollution seems uncontrollable.
All the factors leading to the rising pollution levels vehicular emissions, stubble burning, and the residue derived from constructional burning have been worsening the air quality of Delhi and NCR every other day.
The current weather pattern is also hampering the air quality of the national capital region. So much so that the medical experts have advised Delhiites to try and remain mostly indoors. In fact, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has even asked the organizers of Delhi Marathon to cancel the event in view of Delhi’s contaminated air that could aggravate various lung or respiratory ailments.
As per Skymet Weather, in the present scenario, the winds during the nights are calm and the temperatures are also decreasing gradually, settling in upper teens between 16 and 17 degrees Celsius. Moreover, the humidity levels during the night and morning hours are also high. Thus a layer of smoke and haze can be seen over parts of Delhi and NCR.

Due to the absence of moderate winds, the air near the earth’s surface condenses leading to the formation of mist or haze that could be easily seen during early morning and night hours in parts of Delhi and NCR.

However, during the afternoon hours, light winds from the north-west direction starts blowing which carries the smoke of stubble burning from Punjab and Haryana. These smoke particles in combination with the local pollution of the city get absorbed by the water vapor available in the form of mist or haze during early mornings and nights.
This mixture of haze and pollution remains suspended in the air till forenoon and starts decreasing during the afternoon when the temperatures rise and northwesterly winds start blowing. Similar is the case with Delhi and NCR as of now.
Furthermore, the similar weather condition for the capital of the country and its adjoining regions is likely to continue for another 2-3 days. Until November 9, the winds will remain calm which will enhance the pollution levels. However, thereafter, as the easterly winds will start prevailing over the region at a speed of 10-15 kmph which will result in a marginal reduction in the pollution levels.
