Delhi Records Second Consecutive Hottest Day, Showers Likely Today-Tomorrow

March 29, 2024 12:24 PM |

The national capital recorded yet another hot day yesterday with the mercury rising well above the normal at most locations of DLH/NCR. It was a repeat of the day earlier when the maximum temperature breached the 37°C mark, yet again, for the second consecutive day. A similar rise was recorded at Ayanagar, Narela, Ridge, Pitampura and Pusa, wherein day temperature exceeded 37°C. The highest of all was Pitampura, registering mercury at 37.9°C, about 5°C above the normal. The rising spree is expected to continue today also and relax marginally, thereafter.

An active western disturbance is marked over the northern mountains. Also, there is an induced cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and Haryana in the lower levels of the atmosphere. An east-west trough from this circulation is extending up to Southwest Uttar Pradesh and passing very close to Delhi. This trough may oscillate a bit but will keep proximity with Delhi, over the next 2 days. Rising temperatures and embedded troughs in the seasonal flow will trigger some rain and thundershowers, today and tomorrow, over and around the national capital.

Rain and thundershowers are likely to commence during late evening and stretch further to late night.  Cloudy sky will precede the wet spell and a sheet of medium clouds may restrict the sunshine, during the late afternoon. By this time, the temperature will rise enough to exceed, possibly 36°C and reach closer to 37°C for the third consecutive day. The rain and showers during the later part of the day may become intermittent during the night. Fair amount of chance for a cloudy sky, accompanied by rain and drizzle, tomorrow morning, as well. Weather conditions will start improving tomorrow forenoon hours. A decent amount of sunshine can be expected during the later part of the afternoon and early evening.

The rising spree of temperature may halt and mercury could drop by 2-3°C tomorrow and maintain till 02-03 Apr 2024. Minimum temperatures will also dip by a similar margin, adding a cool and pleasant feel during morning hours. The month of April will start on a dry note and not much change is expected during the first week of the month.
