Delhi to witness single digit minimums, no relief in pollution levels

November 27, 2022 9:45 AM |

This year, Delhi has already witnessed eight consecutive days of single digit minimum in November. Earlier in 2017, delhi witnessed single digit minimum for 7 days. Between 2018 and 2021, the weather remained slightly warmer. Temperature of Delhi will remain in single digit during remaining four days of November as well.

One can wonder why this prolonged spell of single digit has been seen in 2022 so early. Simple reason behind this is prolonged gap between Western Disturbances. Any significant Western disturbance has not approached the Western Himalayas since more than one week. Dry and cold winds from Northwest are continuing over Northwest including Delhi. We do not foresee any western disturbance approaching Western Himalayas until first week of December. Therefore, northwesterly dry and cold winds will continue.

Although the winds are from Northwest but speed is very less. That is why Delhi Pollution remains in the poor category. Stubble burning over neighbouring State of Punjab and Haryana has reduced significantly and contribution of smoke from stubble Burning is just 4% over Delhi. Due to calm and light winds, local pollutants delhi and NCR have been increasing pollution. Delhi AQI index will remain in poor category for next 4-5 days.
