Winters in India

After braving extremely cold weather conditions for the last two consecutive days, Delhi on Wednesday finally breathed huge sigh of relief. For the last two consecutive days, maximum temperatures have been hovering around 12 degree Celsius, leading to severe cold day conditions. These conditions are declared when day maximums in plains settle below 16 degree Celsius.

This has been lowest maximum temperatures Delhi has recorded in the last 17 years. Before this, it was on December 31, 2002 when the national capital had recorded lowest day maximum to the tune of 11.2 degree Celsius.mercury had been settling 10 notches below the normal

With sunlight in complete hiding,  average of 23 degree Celsius. Although it might not match the number of cold days in the previous years, but this December has seen the lowest temperatures.

Delhi temperatures

According to Skymet Weather, the suspended fog in the atmosphere has now started dispersing. This has paved way for sunshine, which in turn led to increase in maximum temperatures. This has taken away the national capital from the clutches of cold day conditions. Around 1:30 PM, mercury had already reached 15 degree Celsius at Safdarjung Observatory.

As per weathermen, we expect comfortable afternoons for the next two days. Day maximums would start increasing gradually but would continue to settle below the average temperatures.

Meanwhile, a fresh Western Disturbance has started affecting Jammu and Kashmir. But being feeble in nature, its impact would be confined to hilly region only. However, it would be able to change the wind pattern and induce some clouding around December 20. Weather models are also indicating towards rains and thundershowers around December 21 but chances are very bleak. But we are sure that cold day conditions are not likely to make a comeback in the coming week.
