Dense fog engulfs Delhi today, visibility to improve

January 27, 2018 1:25 PM |

Delhi Fog 1

After a prolonged dry spell of almost 42 days, the national capital enjoyed second spell of winter rains on January 23. Thereafter, weather remained dry, with clear sky.

Just like yesterday, today morning too, dense fog enveloped Delhi and its adjoining regions of Faridabad, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Noida. So much so that, the visibility dropped to nil in both observatories, Palam as well as Safdarjung.

The persistence of fog could be attributed to the flow of northwesterly winds. These light winds are dry and cold in nature reaching the region straight from the snow-clad mountains. Besides this, an anti-cyclonic feature was seen in the lower levels over North Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Rajasthan.

Now, as the northwesterlies are strengthening, so the intensity of fog will decrease over the national capital as well as its adjoining areas during the next 48 hours. Fog will be seen, but the intensity will stay on the lower side and in limited areas only.

Moreover, maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees, ranging between 19 and 23°C. Night temperatures are anticipated to remain close to normal, settling in the range of 6 and 10°C. Days would be clear, with bright sunshine and nights are likely to remain cold.

Furthermore, cold day conditions will abate the region. Not just Delhi, but other plains of North India such as Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh would also reel under the same weather conditions for the next 48 hours.

Skymet Weather expects a fresh Western Disturbance to approach the Western Himalayas during the next 24 hours. With this, fog will further reduce over the region.
