Dense fog engulfs North and East India, spares foothills

Fog in DelhiAfter witnessing a rainy day, very dense fog has reappeared in  Delhi as visibility dropped to nil at Palam Airport on Thursday morning. Dwarka, Faridabad and Noida reported dense fog, while other locations such as Laxmi Nagar, Model Town, Vikaspuri, Lajpat Nagar, Indirapuram and Noida Expressway witnessed shallow fog.

Lucknow in Central Uttar Pradesh too reported nil visibility. Meanwhile, places in the foothills did not witness any fog, as the Western Disturbance is still moving across the region. Chandigarh and Amritsar witnessed good visibility conditions at 3000 meters and 2000 meters, respectively.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the system continues to give weather over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. As the system passes away, fog will return to the region.

Fog in East India

Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Allahabad continue to report nil visibility as dense fog engulfed the region affecting normal life. These places have been continuously witnessing very dense fog for last some days.

This was followed by Gaya and Patna at 100 meters, Ranchi 120 meters, Agartala 300 meters and Gwalior 400 meters.

Flight delays

Major flight delays have been reported from East India and Delhi bound flights. Nine fights, including six departures and three arrivals, were delayed due to dense fog at Delhi Airport.

Several trains are also running behind schedule, leaving passengers stranded at railway stations for several hours. Extremely cold weather conditions make it worse for the travellers.
